the richness of voice notes
why I think voice notes are a unique medium that allow me to explore messy topics.
OK, I'm gonna try something new.
This is the beautiful thing of making up your own blog, is that you can play around with any kind of media or anything that you want to use. And so one thing that I've been recently really interested in is voice notes.
I had a friend, I don't know, maybe almost a year ago, send me a voice memo, instead of a text message. And at first, I was like annoyed because then I was like, ugh, I'm going to have to find somewhere to like actually listen to this. But when I did, I realized how much better it was than just a text message that's fired off. Because you get to sit with their voice and it's not even about the words. It's about everything that is like held within, you know, the emotion and the meaning and all of that stuff.
And so anyways, I've loved to now occasionally send voice notes to my friends and get them back. It definitely takes more effort. It definitely takes more effort to then sit down and listen to it.
But when I can, I find myself feeling more connected to my friend, to what they're saying, instead of just like sort of this tickbox thing when I fire off a text, which for sure has its uses in like 80% of the time, 90% of the time, but that 10% where I'm looking for connection, text messages aren't quite it.
And so I've really liked this voice memo.
The same thing with like these ideas that I'm still grappling with, that I don't really have fully formed, but I just want to kind of say out loud and work through them in a really messy way. And so, you know, talking myself through them or through a voice note just feels like a different kind of way to play with the idea. And so that's what this little playground's going to be.
